Padstow, Cornwall — August 2017

Cornwall in August 2017, staying with family at an Airbnb in Padstow. Two nights in a cottage with a garden looking out over the Camel Estuary — the kind of place where the main decision each day is which direction to walk.

The A30 down through Wiltshire took us past the Fovant Downs, where regimental badges have been cut into the chalk hillside since the First World War. Worth a stop. Padstow itself was busy — an organised open-water swim was happening in the bay on the Sunday morning, dozens of yellow caps making their way around the harbour.

Evenings were spent down by the harbour and in a wine bar. The return on Monday tracked east through Exeter and across Wiltshire — a longer route but easier riding than the lanes.
