Southern Thailand Motorbike Loop

Southern Thailand Motorbike Loop

Nine days on a rented motorbike around southern Thailand in February 2016, looping out of Phuket and back. Roughly 1,200 km through Krabi, Trang, Surat Thani, Khao Sok and Phang-nga before circling back to the coast.

The GPS track shows the bike holding 60–100 km/h on the highway and dropping to a crawl on the coastal and forest roads. East first to the limestone country around Krabi and Trang, north through rubber plantations toward Surat Thani, south again into the karsts of Phang-nga Bay, and then back onto Phuket to return the bike.

It was one leg of a much longer Southeast Asia trip that year — twelve countries in total across buses, trains, short-hop flights and two motorbike hires. Thailand was the first motorbike segment. The second was a three-week Jakarta-to-Bali ride in March. The wider 2016 itinerary and stats are in the Twenty Years of GPS summary.
