Jakarta to Bali by Motorbike

Jakarta to Bali by Motorbike

Three weeks on a rented motorbike across Java and into Bali in March 2016, Jakarta to Denpasar. Roughly 1,500 km of direct travel Jakarta to Denpasar — though the GPS logged closer to 3,700 km once the Bromo ascent and Bali side-trips were in. Back roads, rice terraces, volcano country and the ferry across the strait at Gilimanuk — with no rest days.

The GPS track picks up in Jakarta on 10 March and settles into a patient 30–100 km/h rhythm, day after day, east across Java. Highlands around Bandung, the royal city of Yogyakarta, the Tengger massif around Mount Bromo, then onto the ferry at Ketapang–Gilimanuk and south through Bali to Denpasar on 30 March.

It was the second of two 2016 motorbike segments inside a larger Southeast Asia trip that year — the first was a nine-day Phuket loop three weeks earlier. The broader 2016 itinerary and stats sit in the Twenty Years of GPS summary.
